The History began on 25 November 2010
The Indonesian workers first came together at FNV Bondgenoten on 25th November 2010 after having heard the campaign about decent work for domestic workers in the Netherlands. Most of the workers who attended the meeting were domestic workers. They were interested to join the campaign and fight for their rights to get Respect and Recognition. Since then the Indonesian workers began to ORGANISE themselves! An initial meeting was held on 28th November 2010 in Amsterdam (IMWU NL Amsterdam Group) to inform the workers on the campaign regarding the domestic workers’right.

Dispereert Niet is a documentary movie about humanity, human trafficking, worker’s right and life struggle. Coming to the Netherlands and hoping of improvement welfare are the motivations of many Indonesian workers to leave Indonesia. With a strong determination, they are ready to work far away from their family to pursue the “European Dream” in the Netherlands.
However, working and living in the Netherlands is not as beautiful as many people say. Instead, their life is full of risks and vulnerable to exploitation because of unskilled, as well as undocumented status. They have to fight with themselves to be strong, to survive, although anxiety and fear are friends in everyday live. Nonetheless, they try to not despair, to dispereert niet.
Directed by Irwan Ahmett, the movie presents another side of the life of Indonesian as migrants. It is aimed also to gain public awareness and to ask for government’s attention to seriously give a hand about Indonesian migrant workers condition.
This is not merely a movie; this is a campaign and public consciousness, a rhetoric portraying another fact of Indonesian workers to obtain protection, acknowledgement and equality for Indonesian migrant workers in the Netherlands.
Dispereert Niet Friday, 20 March 2015 at Vrijplaats, Middelstegracht 36, Leiden. from 17.00 – 21.00 CET https://dispereertniet.wordpress.com/
